The 2nd LIKHA SUMMIT formally opened today, October 28, at Caraga State University. The summit is CSUโ€™s platform for exploring and promoting innovations for sustainable development through research, development, and innovative practices, following the scheme of SciTEch4Dev.

Vice President for Research, Innovation, Development, and Extension (VPRDIE), Dr. Jeffrey T. Dellosa, welcomed the attendees and guests and highlighted the critical role everyone plays in pushing for change through research and innovation. He also related this yearโ€™s theme, which is โ€œInnovating for a Sustainable Future: Research, Development, Innovation, and Extension in Practice,โ€ to the โ€˜Futures Thinkingโ€™ approach by anticipating trends, disruptions, and challenges through strategic, sustainable research.

University President Dr. Rolyn C. Daguil delivered his LIKHA message, emphasizing CSUโ€™s commitment to innovation and sustainable development through research that translates into meaningful and scalable solutions for society and aligns with national goals for sustainable development.

Keynote speakers in the opening ceremony included UP System President Atty. Angelo Jimenez and SEIPI President Dr. Dan Lachica. In their pre-recorded messages, Atty. Jimenez called on higher education institutions (HEIs) to be not only centers of learning but also key drivers of social change. Dr. Lachica also emphasized the critical role of innovation and collaboration in advancing the electronics and semiconductor sectors.

DOST Assistant Secretary Dr. Napoleon K. Juanillo, Jr., also graced the summit to introduce DOST’s Program PROPEL. He further encouraged heightened innovative enterprises that have great potential to thrive on the global scene.

Following the opening ceremonies were plenary sessions with distinguished speakers exploring themes on innovation for sustainable futures, artificial intelligence, robotics, health, and biotechnology, futures thinking and strategic foresight, and technopreneurship and knowledge commercialization.

The summitโ€™s RAISE to Innovate, a regional pitching competition for professionals, also started with their pre-event activities at Hiraya Hall in the afternoon. The day concluded with a Fellowship Night and performances from the Kayam Ethno Band and Dulimbay Theater Arts Guild.

The three sub-conferences, LIKHA-DUNONG, International Computing and Information Sciences (CISCon), and Regional Climate Change Action and Innovation Forum will commence tomorrow, October 29.
