Caraga State University’s Commitment Statement to the United Nations (UN) Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs)
Caraga State University (CSU) is steadfast in its dedication to addressing and advancing the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). The university recognizes that higher education institutions play a pivotal role in fostering a sustainable future through impactful teaching, research, community engagement, and global partnerships. By aligning its strategic initiatives with the SDGs, CSU aims to contribute substantially to local and global efforts to tackle pressing challenges such as poverty, good health and well-being, quality education, environmental degradation, and climate change.
The SDGs, adopted by all United Nations member states in 2015, represent a universal call to action to eradicate poverty, protect the planet, and ensure prosperity for all by 2030. With 17 interlinked goals, the framework promotes integrated approaches that balance social, economic, and environmental dimensions. CSU’s commitment to these goals is embedded in its mission to empower communities through education, research, innovation, and extension, exactly the pillars of the university.

The 2025 release of the THE Impact Rankings marked a milestone for Caraga State University (CSU) — earning the institution a place among the top 5 universities in the Philippines, and a spot in the global 601–800 band on its very first attempt. CSU

Out of 2,526 higher-education institutions worldwide from 130 countries evaluated for their contribution to sustainable development, CSU distinguished itself as the only newcomer to enter the national Top 10 in its debut year. CSU

CSU’s ranking success reflects consistent excellence across several key areas aligned with the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Highlights include:
- SDG 1 (No Poverty) — #1 in the Philippines; 44th globally among 1,267 institutions. CSU
- SDG 4 (Quality Education) — #3 in the Philippines; globally placed in the 601–800 bracket. CSU

Dr. Angelo "Jijil" Jimenez, UP President
This video featured Dr. Angelo “Jijil” Jimenez, UP President, who delivered his speech during the LIKHA Summit 2024. In his speech, he highlighted “The Role of Philippine Higher Education Institutions in Achieving the SDGs by 2030: Driving Innovation, Research, and Community Engagement.”
Dr. Angelo A. Jimenez is a labor lawyer and a respected authority on global worker migration whose work has contributed to the establishment of the Philippines’ new Department of Migrant Workers, as well as the labor migration regulatory framework in countries in Asia, Africa, and the Middle East.
A former Deputy Administrator of the Overseas Workers Welfare Administration, Jimenez’s expertise and experience in the field of migrant worker welfare have brought him to different parts of the world. He served as Labor Attache in Japan, Kuwait, and Iraq. Former President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo awarded him citations for ensuring the safety of Filipino workers during the Israel-Lebanon conflict and for the rescue of a Filipino hostage held in Iraq.
While at the Department of Labor and Employment, Jimenez represented the agency on the Tripartite Industrial Peace Council, Governing Board of the Commission on Filipinos Overseas, and the Inter-Agency Media Task Force on Overseas Filipino Workers. At the Office of the President, he represented the Office of the Senior Deputy Executive Secretary in the Presidential Fact-Finding and Policy Advisory Commission on the Protection of Overseas Filipinos––better known as the Gancayco Commission––and the Cabinet Committee on Maritime and Ocean Affairs during the administration of the late President Fidel V. Ramos.
